New Valley to host food industry complex for date processing

The Upper Egypt Development Authority, in cooperation with the New Valley Governorate, has laid the foundation stone for a food industry complex dedicated to dates and cold storage in the Dakhla Center industrial zone. The project was inaugurated in the presence of Manal Awad, the Minister of Local Development and Environment.

Spanning 50 acres, the complex aims to establish an integrated system for processing, packaging, and storing dates to reduce waste and increase the competitiveness of local agricultural products. The facility targets a storage capacity of 10,000 tons and is intended to serve as a foundation for a specialized date exchange to regulate crop trading. Operations are expected to commence in 2027. The project is designed to boost local investment, support supply chains, and create direct and indirect employment opportunities within the governorate.
