New York City allocates $1 million for 9/11 educational programs

New York City is investing $1 million to expand educational programming and access at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The funding, secured as part of the city’s Fiscal Year 2027 Budget, was announced by City Council Speaker Julie Menin during a ceremony at the memorial.

The initiative aims to educate younger generations who were not alive during the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. Approximately 75% of the funds will be dedicated to covering school field trips, while the remainder will support the 9/11 Anniversary Digital Learning Experience for educators and virtual field trips for classrooms unable to visit in person.

Additional resources provided by the scholarship fund include free audio guides to help students engage more deeply with the museum’s exhibits and historical accounts. Menin emphasized that the investment is intended to ensure students understand the history of the attacks, the acts of heroism that followed, and the subsequent rebuilding efforts.
