New York City launches NYC Mental Health Connect platform

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and the New York City Health Department have introduced NYC Mental Health Connect, a new digital platform designed to help residents locate mental health and substance use services. Funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health, the website allows users to find care from over 600 providers by completing a brief questionnaire.

Users can filter services based on specific criteria, including type of service, appointment availability, age groups served, languages spoken, and accepted insurance types. The platform covers a wide range of support, including outpatient care for adults and youth, rehabilitation, peer support, crisis intervention, and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Some options include in-person, virtual, or home-based care.

The initiative follows city reports indicating significant barriers to care; for instance, 24% of surveyed NYC youth expressed a need for mental health support but did not know where to seek it, while many adults cited a lack of knowledge regarding how to contact providers as a primary obstacle to treatment.
