New York City opens new mental health support facilities
New York City officials have announced the opening of two new facilities aimed at supporting residents with serious mental illnesses.
In the Bronx, the NYC Health Department and Venture House have opened Venture House Bronx in Fordham Heights. This permanent clubhouse provides a community-based environment featuring a commercial kitchen, art and media studios, and a wellness center. The facility is designed to help individuals with conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression build social skills and access employment and education support.
In Brooklyn, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYC Health + Hospitals launched a new Bridge to Home facility in Crown Heights. This site offers private rooms for approximately 50 guests, serving as a transitional step between inpatient hospital care and permanent supportive housing. The program provides clinical and behavioral services onsite, including substance use disorder treatment, to help residents stabilize before moving into long-term homes.
