New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has released the city’s first Racial Equity Plan, a 400-page document designed to address racial disparities across five boroughs. The plan outlines eight broad goals involving 45 city agencies, covering sectors such as health, transportation, education, the justice system, housing, and internet access.

Chief Equity Officer Afua Atta-Mensah described the report as the start of a multi-year implementation process. The plan includes 200 agency-specific goals and 600 indicators to measure progress. The Mayor’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice is scheduled to provide a progress report in two years.

The release follows a court ruling against the city regarding delays in producing the inaugural report, which advocates had expected approximately 18 months ago.
