New York City reports multiple cyclist and e-bike collisions
A series of recent collisions involving cyclists and e-bike riders has occurred across New York City. In the Bronx, a 50-year-old man riding an e-bike was fatally struck by a pick-up truck during the Wednesday morning rush at the intersection of East 145th Street and Brook Avenue in Mott Haven. The 55-year-old driver remained at the scene, and no immediate charges have been filed.
In Brooklyn, security footage captured an unmarked NYPD vehicle running a red light at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Hoyt Street, striking a woman on a Citi Bike. The cyclist was knocked into the roadway and taken to a hospital to recover from bruises. Witnesses reported that officers from the 73rd Precinct returned to the scene after the vehicle initially continued down the avenue.
These incidents follow other recent fatalities involving cyclists in the city, including a 71-year-old bicyclist who died in Central Park after striking an unleashed dog and a delivery woman who was killed by a dump truck in Herald Square on September 28.
