New York City cyclist and e-bike collisions
Overview
New York City has experienced a series of collisions involving cyclists and e-bike riders. On October 7, a 50-year-old e-bike rider was fatally struck by a pick-up truck in the Bronx during the morning rush. That same day, an unmarked NYPD vehicle was filmed running a red light in Brooklyn and striking a woman on a Citi Bike.
On October 20, a 33-year-old e-bike rider was left in critical condition following a hit-and-run in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Police report that a white Hyundai Elantra merged into the rider’s lane and fled the scene. The driver remains at large. These incidents follow other recent fatalities, including a delivery worker killed in Herald Square in late September.
