New York City reports rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations

COVID-19 hospitalizations in New York City have increased, with more than 500 admissions recorded across the five boroughs between August 30 and September 5. This represents the highest weekly hospitalization rate since early October of last year. During the first week of September, 12 deaths related to the virus were also reported.

In a separate health matter, a Legionella bacteria outbreak has been detected at Yankee Stadium and nine other buildings in the Bronx. The outbreak has resulted in nine cases and one death in the Melrose and Morrisania sectors. Health officials note that Legionnaires' disease is contracted by inhaling contaminated water droplets or vapor and is not transmitted person-to-person.
