New York investigations involve NYPD arrest and fatal crash
In Staten Island, a family and NAACP leaders are demanding the release of NYPD body camera footage following an October 7 incident in the St. George neighborhood. The family alleges that a 17-year-old boy sustained facial fractures and lost a tooth during an encounter with officers. While the NYPD stated that officers were responding to reports of shots fired and that the teenager swung at them, the department noted that body-worn cameras did not capture that specific movement. The officers involved have been placed on modified duty pending investigations by the Civilian Complaint Review Board and the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau.
Separately, New York State Attorney General Letitia James released security footage regarding a June investigation into a fatal crash involving an off-duty Suffolk police officer. The footage shows a collision in North Patchogue between a pickup truck driven by officer Michael Aulivola and a Kia Forte. The crash resulted in the death of passenger Hilton Spokony. The Attorney General’s office, which investigates deaths involving law enforcement officials, has not yet announced if criminal charges will be filed.
