New York Jets face preseason challenges with Geno Smith and Mazi Smith
The New York Jets are facing challenges during training camp involving veteran quarterback Geno Smith and defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
During a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Geno Smith struggled, recording two interceptions and two sacks. He failed to complete any passes beyond seven or eight yards during the session, raising questions about his ability to serve as a steadying veteran presence following his tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Separately, analysts have suggested that the Jets should place defensive tackle Mazi Smith on the trade block. The former first-round pick has seen limited playing time, appearing in only three games last season and playing 25 percent of defensive snaps. Following the acquisition of T’Vondre Sweat and the decline of his fifth-year contract option, his future with the team remains uncertain.
