New York Jets defeat Pittsburgh Steelers 17-0 in preseason

The New York Jets defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 17-0 in a preseason game held in Pittsburgh. Jets quarterback Geno Smith, returning from an ankle injury, completed all seven of his passes for 65 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jelani Woods on the team's opening drive.

Defensively, the Jets showed improvement. Rookie pass rusher David Bailey, the No. 2 overall pick, recorded his first preseason sack by taking down Steelers quarterback Will Howard for an 11-yard loss. The Jets defense also secured two interceptions during the contest.

In terms of roster competition, safety Dane Belton appears to be leading the battle for a starting role opposite Minkah Fitzpatrick, potentially moving veteran Andre Cisco to a third-safety role. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn noted the need for improvement in the running game despite the shutout victory.
