New York Mets consider coaching candidates for hitting director role

The New York Mets are evaluating candidates to fill the vacancy for director of MLB hitting following the decision not to renew Jeff Albert’s contract.

Kevin Long, who previously served as the Mets’ hitting coach from 2015 to 2017, is a primary candidate. Long recently became available after parting ways with the Philadelphia Phillies. His potential return is bolstered by a close relationship with current player Juan Soto.

Additionally, Chicago Cubs assistant hitting coach John Mallee has emerged as a candidate. Mallee, who was the lead hitting coach during the Cubs’ 2016 World Series victory, has extensive experience in both the Major Leagues and the minor leagues.

It remains unclear whether the new hire will work alongside current hitting coach Troy Snitker or occupy a position above him in the organizational hierarchy.
