New York Rangers face goaltending crisis amid injuries and heavy loss

The New York Rangers are navigating a severe goaltending shortage following season-ending injuries to starter Igor Shesterkin and a lower-body injury to backup Joonas Korpisalo. Rookie Dylan Garand has been thrust into the starting role, but his recent performance suffered during a 7-1 blowout loss to the New Jersey Devils, where he was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots.

To address the depth issue, the Rangers' AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, signed veteran goaltender James Reimer to a professional tryout agreement. Additionally, the team has made roster adjustments by recalling Justin Dowling from Hartford and reassigning rookie Cole Beaudoin.

General manager Chris Drury is reportedly exploring trade options to stabilize the position. Speculation includes interest in Buffalo Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Toronto Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz, as the team seeks experienced depth to support Garand and Spencer Martin.
