New York Police hunt suspect in Orange County homicide and arson
A multi-agency manhunt is underway in upstate New York for 32-year-old Thomas David Ryan, who is wanted in connection with the homicide of his 70-year-old father, Robert Ryan, and a subsequent house fire in Greenville, Orange County.
Investigators believe the fire at the Greenville Turnpike residence was deliberately set to cover up the killing. Following the blaze, firefighters discovered Robert Ryan's body inside the home. Authorities have described the suspect as "armed and dangerous."
Thomas Ryan is reported to be traveling in a gray 2016 Toyota Prius with New York license plate HNH-7671, though police noted he is also known to travel by train. He is described as 6'2" and approximately 200 pounds, last seen wearing a black t-shirt and black sweatpants.
The victim's daughter, Stephanie Coiro, stated that her brother suffers from severe mental illness, specifically schizophrenia, and had recently stopped taking his medication. She characterized the incident as a "systemic failure" of the mental health system.
