New York Times and Press Herald release joint poll on Maine Senate race

The New York Times and the Portland Press Herald have partnered with the Siena Research Institute to conduct a statewide public‑opinion poll of Maine voters ahead of the 2026 elections. The collaboration is the first large‑scale poll the Press Herald has undertaken in several years and was funded with support from the Maine Trust for Local News.

More than 600 likely Maine voters were surveyed between June 19 and June 26. The poll shows a very close contest for the U.S. Senate seat, a race that could influence the balance of power in Congress, and notes that the governor’s office is also term‑limited. Executives said, "We feel incredibly fortunate to be collaborating with two venerable institutions in an election year that matters so much in our state." The poll carries a margin of error of 4.8%.
