New York to issue energy rebate checks to 8.2 million households

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the distribution of energy rebate checks to approximately 8.2 million households as part of the $1 billion Protecting Our Wallets Energy Rebate (POWER) program. Starting September 21 and continuing through December, eligible residents will receive payments via mail. Joint filers with incomes under $150,000 will receive $200, while those earning between $150,000 and $300,000 will receive $150. Single filers with incomes up to $150,000 are eligible for $100.

Specifically, those with birthdays falling between the 21st and 31st of any month are slated for payment on September 23. Additionally, projections for the 2027 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) suggest an increase of approximately 3.5% to 3.6% based on recent inflation data.

Regarding food assistance, SNAP benefit distribution dates vary by state. For example, in Louisiana, payments are scheduled for September 21 and September 23 depending on the final digits of the recipient's Social Security number.
