New York voters support abolishing state income tax in new poll

A new poll from the Empire Center for Public Policy reveals that 64% of registered voters in New York support the abolition of the state income tax. The survey indicates widespread dissatisfaction with the current tax system, with 67% of respondents stating they do not receive good value for the tax dollars they pay.

Support for eliminating the income tax spans various demographics and political affiliations. The proposal is backed by 88% of Republicans, 64% of unaffiliated voters, and 51% of Democrats. Majority support was also recorded across all regions, including 70% in the Hudson Valley, 69% on Long Island, and 54% in New York City.

Zilvinas Silenas, president of the Empire Center for Public Policy, suggested that the state could follow the example of Florida, which does not have a state income tax, to prevent residents from leaving the state due to the high tax burden.
