New York‑New Jersey Flood Warning Issued as Heavy Storms Approach

The National Weather Service in New York issued a flood warning covering the northeastern part of New Jersey, the lower Hudson Valley and southwestern Connecticut from Sunday night through Monday. The warning follows a slow‑moving frontal system combined with tropical air, bringing heavy rain that could produce isolated flash‑flooding, especially in the northeast of New Jersey on Monday. Expected rainfall totals range from 0.75 to 1.5 inches, with isolated amounts near 3 inches, and rain rates of 1‑2 inches per hour.

The service also noted a low risk of strong thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 60 mph, which could cause downed trees, power outages and road closures. Residents in the warned areas are advised to monitor official forecasts, avoid traveling on flooded roads, and stay alert for rapid water accumulation.
