New Zealand Energy Firms Report Rising Sales and Renewable Expansion

Contact Energy released its June 2026 operating report, showing electricity and gas sales to mass‑market customers rise to 495 GWh and 1,056 GWh of contracted electricity respectively, up from the prior year. Generation and acquisition increased to 1,101 GWh, while hydro storage remained robust across both islands. The company also outlined new renewable projects, including the Kowhai Park solar farm, Te Mihi Stage 2 geothermal plant, Glenbrook‑Ohurua Battery 2 and Glorit solar facility.

Mercury NZ Limited announced a strong fourth‑quarter performance ending 30 June 2026, with a trading margin of $390 million, a 33 % increase year‑on‑year, and total generation of 2,344 GWh. Milestones were reached at the Kaiwera Downs Stage 2 wind farm and the Kaiwaikawe wind farm, with fast‑track consent granted for the Puke Kapo Hau wind farm. The firm highlighted over 1 TWh of geothermal potential under study and introduced new time‑of‑use “Flex Rates” plans for retail customers.
