Cinisello Balsamo newborn found abandoned in shopping bag
A newborn baby boy, weighing approximately 4 kilograms, was found abandoned in a plastic shopping bag in Cinisello Balsamo, near Milan, on Monday afternoon. The infant was discovered by a woman walking her dog near via Monte Ortigara, who responded to the baby's cries. The child was found with the placenta still attached and some bloodied cloths, suggesting the birth had occurred shortly before the discovery, likely at home.
The baby was transported under 'code red' to Niguarda Hospital, where he was treated for mild hypothermia and provided with light respiratory support. Medical staff in the neonatal intensive care unit report that his general condition is stable and discrete.
Investigators from the Milan Police Mobile Squad are reviewing public and private surveillance footage to identify the mother. While some camera views are obscured by tree leaves, authorities are expanding their search radius in hopes of capturing the individual carrying the yellow shopping bag. The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the abandonment.
