In a separate incident in Cecina, an investigation was launched by the Livorno Prosecutor’s Office after a newborn was brought to a hospital emergency room in a bag. The infant was reportedly deceased upon arrival. The mother, a woman in her thirties who resides outside the region, claimed she was unaware of the pregnancy and mistook labor pains for digestive issues. Preliminary assessments suggest the baby was born prematurely, with an estimated gestational age between 30 and 32 weeks. The woman is currently under investigation for infanticide, and authorities are also examining the role of her partner, who accompanied her to the hospital. Public Prosecutor Ezia Mancusi has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death and to establish whether the child was alive at the moment of birth. The mother remains hospitalized for medical evaluation and is reported to be in good health.
