Newborn baby found abandoned in trash bag in Rio de Janeiro
A newborn girl was discovered inside a trash bag on Rua Moreia in the Engenho da Rainha neighborhood, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. A couple walking near the location heard crying and found the infant, who was still wet and had an umbilical cord attached.
Vitória Freitas and her partner rescued the child and transported her first to the Del Castilho Medical Urgent Care Center (PAM) before she was transferred to the Carmela Dutra Maternity Hospital. The infant, named Heloísa Vitória, is currently under pediatric care. Reports indicate the baby may have sustained abrasions and possible signs of mistreatment.
A woman claiming to be the mother arrived at the maternity hospital after experiencing hemorrhaging at home. Local residents reported finding traces of blood at her residence, suggesting a recent birth. The case has been registered at the 44th DP (Inhaúma) as an attempted infanticide, and authorities are investigating the circumstances of the abandonment.
