Newcastle Airport prepares for record summer with 1.4 million passengers

Newcastle International Airport in England expects to handle more than 1.4 million passengers during the school‑holiday period, an increase of almost ten per cent on the previous summer. Over 4,000 flights are scheduled, with popular sunshine destinations such as Alicante, Antalya, Ibiza and Palma among the busiest routes, and strong demand for European city‑breaks to Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen and Paris.

The growth follows recent airline investment: easyJet, which opened a new base earlier this year, will operate flights to 21 destinations and launch services to Prague, Reus, Sharm El‑Sheikh and Tenerife in August. Jet2 added routes to Porto, Preveza and Palermo, while Ryanair expanded its network with flights to Budapest, Malta and Marrakech. The airport has also spent almost £60 million on upgrades, including a new terminal extension, expanded security areas and a larger international baggage hall, to maintain short waiting times and a world‑class passenger experience.
