Newcastle police pursue fleeing sedan, two arrested after crash
Newcastle City Police attempted to stop a sedan on Glebe Road in Hamilton South at about 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The driver refused to comply, prompting a high‑speed pursuit that continued through several Newcastle suburbs and the Lake Macquarie area. Police ended the chase on Macquarie Road at Cardiff for safety reasons.
Shortly after, officers responded to a collision on Macquarie Road at Warners Bay involving the pursued sedan and a motorcycle. The 28‑year‑old motorcyclist received minor injuries and was taken to Belmont Hospital. Police said the sedan occupants fled the scene. Later, a 22‑year‑old man and a 40‑year‑old woman were stopped on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass at Gateshead, arrested, and transferred to Belmont Police Station. Police have asked the public for any dash‑cam or other footage of the incident.
