Nexon launches domestic service for Overwatch in South Korea
Nexon has officially launched domestic publishing services for Blizzard Entertainment’s PC title ‘Overwatch’ in South Korea, coinciding with the start of Season 4, ‘Heroes of Busan’.
A key component of this transition is the implementation of a localized server system requiring mandatory identity verification. This measure aims to curb the use of unauthorized programs and mitigate issues with smurf accounts, which have previously impacted the game’s competitive environment. Users can link their existing Battle.net accounts with Nexon accounts to retain all previous play records and content.
The Season 4 update introduces a new Korean hero, ‘D. Mon’, a leader of the MEKA squad. The update also features map enhancements to the ‘Busan’ map and visual updates to ‘Paraiso’ and ‘Eichenwalde’.
To celebrate the launch, Nexon is hosting various events, including login rewards, mission-based item exchanges, and an offline ‘Overwatch Day’ event at BEXCO in Busan on August 22–23. Additionally, promotional activities are tied to the Overwatch World Cup group stages held at the Busan eSports Arena.
