Nexon-Blizzard Overwatch service transition in South Korea
Overview
Nexon has officially taken over domestic publishing services for Blizzard Entertainment’s ‘Overwatch’ in South Korea. The transition coincided with the launch of Season 4, ‘Heroes of Busan’, which introduced a new Korean hero named ‘D. Mon’. To support the localized service, Nexon implemented a server system requiring mandatory identity verification to address issues regarding unauthorized programs and smurf accounts.
To mark the partnership, Nexon and Blizzard hosted ‘Overwatch Day’ at BEXCO in Busan. During the event, Blizzard’s Overwatch Director Aaron Keller noted that Nexon is a suitable partner due to its understanding of the Korean market. The collaboration aims to better incorporate feedback from the Korean player base into the game’s development.
