NexPhone announces multi-OS smartphone with Android, Debian, and Windows 11
NexPhone has announced a new smartphone designed to function as a computer by supporting multiple operating systems. The device aims to integrate Android, Debian, and Windows 11 within a single unit.
On development models, Android 17 is already operational. Debian can be run as an application within Android without requiring a restart, utilizing hardware acceleration and shared folders. Windows 11 for Arm architecture is available via a dual-boot mechanism that requires a device restart. To improve usability on a small screen, the manufacturer has developed a mobile Windows interface inspired by Windows Phone tiles.
The hardware features a Qualcomm QCM6490 chipset, 12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of expandable storage via microSD. The device includes a 6.58-inch display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 5000 mAh battery. For desktop-like functionality, the phone can be connected to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse using a USB-C to HDMI hub, or paired with the optional NexDock.
Designed for durability, the NexPhone is expected to meet MIL-STD-810H military standards and carry IP68 and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. Shipping is scheduled to begin in March.
