NFL suspends two officials for unprofessional conduct
The NFL has suspended two officials for unprofessional conduct following separate incidents during Week 4 games. Line judge Jeff Seeman has been issued a two-game suspension without pay after being caught on camera using profanity toward Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during a game against the New York Giants. The exchange occurred following a disputed non-call on a potential pass interference play.
Referee Adrian Hill has received a one-game suspension after an incident during a game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Miami Dolphins. Hill reportedly yelled at Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson after an accidental collision between the player and the official. Wilson had attempted to help Hill to his feet following the contact.
The suspensions have drawn significant reactions from player representatives. JC Tretter, executive director of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), stated that such behavior is “unacceptable” and argued that officials should be held to the same accountability standards as players. Conversely, the NFL Referees Association has announced it will challenge the severity of the punishments, arguing that the discipline is excessive and fails to account for the high-pressure environment officials face.
