Wilson later stated he had apologized for the contact.
NFL Vice President of Officiating Ramon George announced the suspensions. NFL Players Association Executive Director JC Tretter condemned the conduct, stating, ‘This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.’
In response to the league’s decision, the NFL Referees Association announced it will challenge the severity of the punishments, arguing that the discipline is excessive and fails to account for the high-pressure environment officials face.
