NFL investigates officials for verbal confrontations with players
The NFL is investigating multiple confrontational exchanges between officials and players that occurred during Sunday's games. The league is specifically looking into an incident involving Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride and an interaction where referee Adrian Hill reacted angrily toward Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson.
The incident involving Wilson occurred during a game between the Vikings and the Miami Dolphins. After an unintentional collision where Wilson was pushed into Hill during a dead play, the referee reportedly berated the linebacker despite Wilson appearing to offer assistance.
In a separate instance, an official allegedly used profanity toward McBride during a game involving the New York Giants. Following these events, NFLPA executive director JC Tretter called for accountability, stating, “This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable,” and noting that players are held to different standards than officials.
