NFL quarterbacks face rising injury concerns in early 2026 season

The early stages of the 2026 NFL season have been marked by a significant wave of injuries to starting quarterbacks. Within the first two weeks, four starters have been sidelined: Sam Darnold of the Seattle Seahawks (glute injury), Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears (hamstring), Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders (elbow dislocation), and Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants (MCL sprain). In Chicago, backup Tyson Bagent has also entered concussion protocol.

Amidst these injuries, the Seattle Seahawks have seen mixed results and roster shifts. While the team has maintained a strong start, rookie running back Jadarian Price dealt with a shoulder injury and a fumble during a Week 2 win against the Arizona Cardinals. Rookie guard Beau Stephens has also begun seeing increased playing time.

The high rate of quarterback injuries has prompted discussions regarding player safety and practice protocols. Former coach Bill Belichick noted that limited contact during practices may hinder the development of offensive linemen, potentially leaving quarterbacks more vulnerable to hits during games.
