NFOŚiGW introduces new support for Polish green municipalities

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) has introduced new support programs for Polish municipalities that have created or expanded nature reserves or national parks since 2024.

A new initiative titled ‘Space for Nature. Part 5) Green Municipalities – focusing on biodiversity’ aims to support biodiversity protection and tourism development. With a budget of 40 million PLN, the program can cover up to 95% of eligible costs for projects such as modernizing tourism infrastructure, protecting green and blue infrastructure, and ecological education. Applications will be accepted from October 1, 2026, to June 30, 2028.

Additionally, municipalities with new protected areas can access preferential loans through the ‘Water and sewage economy in agglomerations’ program. Starting August 6, 2026, these loans will feature lower interest rates and more favorable repayment terms, including the possibility of forgiving up to 50% or 30% of the loan amount, depending on the municipality's wealth.
