Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà sentenced to 2 years for deceiving music show customers
Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà, Director of Ngọc Việt Education, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for “customer deception” following the cancellation of the music program “Về đây bốn cánh chim trời” in Hanoi.
The court found that Hà and her company failed to secure necessary music copyrights for 24 works by composers such as Văn Cao and Trịnh Công Sơn. Despite knowing the show could not proceed due to unpaid contracts and copyright issues, Hà directed staff to continue selling tickets and collecting money. The incident resulted in over 3.6 billion VND in ticket sales and affected more than 700 spectators.
During the trial, conflicting testimonies emerged between Hà and Music Director Vũ Quang Trung. Hà claimed the show failed because she could not persuade Trung to perform despite her attempts to settle outstanding payments. Conversely, Trung stated the show was halted because the company changed payment methods at the last minute and failed to settle copyright notices.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court prohibited Hà from holding management positions in event production for three years after her term. The court also ordered Hà and Ngọc Việt Education to refund all ticket money to the affected customers.
