NGG reports over 2,200 apprenticeship vacancies in Hannover and Celle

The German trade union Gewerkschaft Nahrung‑Genuss‑Gaststätten (NGG) announced that more than 2,200 apprenticeship positions remain unfilled for the new training year. In the city and region of Hannover, 2,016 spots are open, including 50 in hotels, restaurants and catering, 39 in the food‑processing industry and 29 in bakeries. In the neighbouring Kreis Celle, 256 vacancies are listed, with 8 in hospitality, 15 in food‑industry firms and 8 in bakeries.

NGG Hannover managing director Philipp Thom urged young people to use the flexible start period, noting that many employers can begin training in August, September or even October. He advised candidates to seek contracts with firms that pay tariff wages and to verify the existence of a youth and trainee representation (JAV) that safeguards training quality and prevents exploitation. The union emphasized the three‑year apprenticeship as a solid investment for future career development.
