Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh launch DNA sampling to identify martyrs
Authorities in Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh provinces are conducting a second round of DNA sampling from relatives of unidentified martyrs to assist in identifying war remains.
In Nghệ An, the provincial People's Committee has coordinated with the police to collect DNA samples from October 24 to October 30. This phase focuses on maternal lineages. A previous collection period saw 17,831 samples collected, achieving an 89.7% rate. Local authorities are providing transportation to ensure all registered relatives can reach sampling points.
Similarly, Hà Tĩnh province has launched its second round of DNA collection through both centralized locations and mobile units. To support elderly or ill participants, mobile teams are visiting homes directly. The initiative aims to complete the national database to help thousands of families identify their lost relatives and bring remains home.
