Nghệ An launches mission to recover martyr remains in Laos

The Nghệ An Provincial Military Command has officially launched a mission to search for and collect the remains of martyrs during the 2026-2027 dry season. This initiative is part of a 500-day campaign aimed at identifying and recovering fallen soldiers.

The mission is divided into two phases, with the first starting in August. An initial team of 40 officers and soldiers from the Nghệ An Provincial Military Command has departed for Laos. The objective is to recover 180 sets of remains: 70 located within Vietnam and 110 belonging to Vietnamese volunteers and experts who died in the provinces of Xieng Khouang, Vientiane, and Xaysomboun in Laos.

Provincial Vice Chairman Phùng Thành Vinh instructed the team to maintain high responsibility, overcome difficulties, and coordinate closely with Lao local authorities. The mission emphasizes adhering to the laws of both nations, military discipline, and ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment.
