Nghe An police dismantle large-scale counterfeit medicine ring
Nghe An Provincial Police have prosecuted 10 individuals for the production and sale of counterfeit medicines. The criminal ring was led by Bui Van Truong, a resident of Hai Phong, and operated across multiple provinces.
The investigation began after authorities identified Bui Thi Xuan in Nghe An as a suspected seller of counterfeit drugs online. Subsequent searches at the residences and workplaces of both Xuan and Truong led to the seizure of approximately 20,000 bottles of finished products. These medicines were falsely advertised as 100% herbal remedies based on “traditional formulas” to treat conditions such as sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, stomach ailments, and tumors.
Investigators found that Truong organized the production at home by mixing various herbal materials with modern medicines without following proper manufacturing processes or precise ingredient measurements. To expand the market, the group collaborated with social media influencers (KOLs) and group administrators to promote and distribute the products. Between February and June 2026, the ring reportedly sold products to thousands of customers nationwide, generating approximately 5 billion VND in illicit profits.
