Counterfeit production and distribution in Vietnam

Overview

Authorities in Vietnam have dismantled two distinct large-scale criminal operations involving the production and sale of fraudulent goods.

In Nghe An province, police prosecuted 10 individuals for operating a counterfeit medicine ring led by Bui Van Truong. The group manufactured products falsely advertised as “traditional formulas” for various ailments by mixing herbal materials with modern medicines. Utilizing social media influencers to reach thousands of customers, the ring generated approximately 5 billion VND in illicit profits between February and June 2026.

In Thanh Hoa province, investigators dismantled a transnational network specializing in counterfeit documents. The syndicate operated a printing facility in Cambodia to manufacture forged driver’s licenses, diplomas, and certificates, which were then smuggled into Vietnam. Using approximately 37 Facebook pages for solicitation, the group reportedly distributed over 100,000 sets of documents since the beginning of 2026, earning an estimated 15 billion VND.
