Nghe An landslides block roads and isolate villages

Massive landslides have occurred in the mountainous communes of Muong Long and Muong Tip in Nghe An Province, Vietnam, causing significant damage to local infrastructure. In Muong Long, thousands of tons of earth and rock collapsed from high mountains, burying temporary roads and cutting off access to several villages, including Sa Lay, Tham Hang, and Tham Hoc.

Despite a lack of recent rainfall, the landslides continued on August 31 and September 1. Authorities believe the instability was caused by soil previously saturated by heavy rains. Local officials are currently deploying machinery and personnel to clear the debris and establish temporary routes for residents.

In Muong Tip, large boulders weighing several tons rolled down a mountain onto Provincial Road 543D, blocking the sole access route to the commune. While no casualties have been reported, local authorities have issued warnings advising residents to avoid high-risk areas and adjust travel schedules to ensure safety.
