NGOs call for humanitarian corridors in Ukraine to aid civilians

A coalition of non-governmental organizations, led by the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, has issued an urgent call for the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors in conflict zones within Ukraine. The appeal, which included representatives from Sadakataşı, the Orphan Foundation, the Refugee Rights Association, and Özgür-Der, aims to facilitate the delivery of food, clean water, and medical supplies to civilians.

Osman Atalay, a board member of IHH, highlighted the dire situation in Oleshky, located in the Kherson region. According to reports, the population of Oleshky has plummeted from approximately 24,000 before the war to just 2,000 residents, including 50 children. The city currently lacks electricity and natural gas, and residents have reportedly been unable to access food and medicine for nearly a month.

The organizations are calling on the warring parties and the international community to ensure the protection of civilians and strict adherence to international law. They emphasized the need to secure access to essential services, including healthcare, energy, and shelter, particularly in the Kherson region.
