Nguyễn Thị Thược sentenced to life imprisonment for drug trafficking

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court has sentenced 79-year-old Nguyễn Thị Thược to life imprisonment for the illegal sale of narcotics. Thược was found responsible for trafficking approximately 3 kg of various drugs, including heroin and methamphetamine.

According to court records, Thược began purchasing drugs in October 2024 through a contact in Cambodia to resell for profit. During a police search of her residence in the Gò Vấp district, authorities seized over 1 kg of heroin and more than 2.2 kg of methamphetamine. The court noted that Thược had prior convictions for drug trafficking and theft but continued her criminal activities.

In addition to Thược, ten other defendants received prison sentences ranging from 18 months to 20 years for various offenses, including drug trafficking, possession, organizing illegal drug use, and failure to report crimes. Thược's niece, Trần Thị Lan Anh, was sentenced to seven years in prison. While the court acknowledged mitigating factors such as her advanced age and cooperation with investigators, it ruled that her actions posed a significant danger to society.
