NHAI introduces OneTag for FASTag bank portability

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced ‘OneTag’ via the RajmargYatra app, allowing FASTag users to port their existing tags to different banks without replacing the physical sticker on their vehicle's windshield.

This new feature functions similarly to mobile number portability. While the Tag ID and vehicle registration number remain the same, the backend records are updated to the new bank. To use this service, users must log in to the RajmargYatra app, verify eligibility using their vehicle registration number, and obtain a 6-digit MVC (Verification Code) from their current bank to complete the KYC and wallet setup with the new provider.

Users should note that existing balances in the old FASTag wallet will not automatically transfer to the new bank. The previous bank will close the old wallet and refund the remaining balance, though certain deductions may apply. Additionally, portability is not unlimited; users must wait six months before attempting to switch banks again.
