India FASTag system updates and usage growth

Overview

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented new features for the FASTag electronic tolling system. Initially, the NHAI introduced ‘OneTag’ through the RajmargYatra app, a service designed to allow users to port their existing tags to different banks without replacing the physical sticker on their vehicle. This process requires users to verify eligibility via their vehicle registration number and use a 6-digit verification code to update backend records.

Following these technical updates, the Indian government reported that the FASTag Annual Pass has surpassed one crore issuances since its launch on August 15. This pass, intended for non-commercial vehicles, offers one year of validity or up to 200 crossings for a one-time fee of ₹3,075. The pass can be activated via the NHAI website or the Rajmargyatra app.
