NHS launches seasonal flu and Covid-19 vaccination programme
The NHS has launched its seasonal vaccination programme, offering free flu and Covid-19 jabs to eligible groups to mitigate the risk of serious illness during the winter months. The expansion of the flu vaccine rollout began on October 1, targeting adults aged 65 and over, as well as individuals aged 18 to 65 with underlying clinical risk conditions.
Other eligible groups for the flu vaccine include residents of long-stay care homes, carers receiving Carer’s Allowance, frontline social care workers, and those living with immunocompromised individuals. The Covid-19 vaccination programme is specifically being offered to care home residents for older adults, adults aged 75 and over, and immunosuppressed individuals aged six months to 74 years.
Health officials note that flu activity typically peaks in December and January. The rollout aims to ensure protection is established before the virus circulates most widely. Appointments can be scheduled via the NHS App, the National Booking Service, or by calling 119.
