NHS urges early flu vaccine bookings to ease winter demand

The NHS is urging the public to book flu vaccination appointments early to mitigate pressure on the health system during the upcoming winter season. Following a summer that saw record patient numbers due to multiple heatwaves, health officials are initiating winter preparations earlier than in previous years.

In England, children and pregnant individuals can begin booking appointments via an online portal starting in September. NHS Scotland and NHS Wales are expected to contact eligible individuals starting in late August. Eligible groups include those aged 65 or older, individuals aged 18 to 64 with specific long-term health conditions, pregnant people, care home residents, and frontline health and social care workers.

Those not eligible for a free NHS vaccine may opt for private appointments, with retailers such as Boots already offering bookings.
