NIA arrests JMB suspect in West Bengal for terror conspiracy

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Majibur Rahman in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy linked to the Assam module of the banned organization Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Following a special court order, Rahman has been granted a five-day transit remand to undergo further interrogation in Assam.

Investigators believe Rahman developed links with the banned outfit through social media during his student years. After a terror-related case was filed against him in Assam in January, he reportedly went into hiding, eventually relocating to Delhi. He was apprehended alongside his wife from a hideout in Bihar by a special police team.

The arrest is part of a broader investigation into Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of JMB. The group is accused of attempting to expand its extremist network and radicalize youth across West Bengal and northeastern Indian states. This follows a previous operation in September that resulted in the arrest of 13 other suspects across Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala.
