NIA investigation into JMB-linked terror network

Overview

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched investigations into a terror conspiracy involving Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

In late September, the NIA conducted coordinated raids across 16 locations in Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala. These operations aimed to disrupt efforts by the IMK to expand extremist ideology and radicalize youth, specifically targeting the establishment of terror modules in South India to evade scrutiny. The raids resulted in the arrest of six individuals in Assam and the detention of a mosque imam in West Bengal.

By mid-October, the investigation continued with the arrest of Majibur Rahman in Bihar. Rahman, who reportedly developed links with the banned organization via social media, was apprehended alongside his wife. Following a court order, he was granted a five-day transit remand to undergo interrogation in Assam regarding his connection to the group’s Assam module.
