Nicaragua commemorates Battle of San Jacinto and Army anniversary

Nicaraguan institutions and the educational community gathered to commemorate significant historical and military milestones. At the Casa Hacienda San Jacinto National Museum, representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, the National Police, and the Public Ministry paid tribute to the heroes of the 1856 Battle of San Jacinto.

During the ceremony, floral offerings were placed at the monument to General José Dolores Estrada. Police Commissioner General Victoriano Ruíz Urbina highlighted the 170th anniversary of the battle, noting how 160 Nicaraguans and indigenous archers defeated filibuster forces led by Byron Cole. Minister of the Interior Amelia Coronel emphasized that honoring these national heroes serves to strengthen sovereign security and peace.

In the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region, the Nicaraguan Army celebrated its 47th anniversary at the Luis Delgadillo Military Base in Bilwi. The event honored the service of military personnel in maintaining peace and security in the region. The Army, established following the 1979 Sandinista Revolution, traces its commemorative roots to the defense forces founded by General Augusto C. Sandino in 1927.
