Nicaraguan historical and military commemorations

Nicaraguan state institutions, the educational community, and various government bodies gathered to commemorate the 170th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. At the Casa Hacienda San Jacinto National Museum, representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, the National Police, and the Public Ministry paid tribute to the 1856 defense against American filibuster forces. During ceremonies involving floral offerings at the monument to General José Dolores Estrada, Police Commissioner General Victoriano Ruíz Urbina noted how 160 Nicaraguans and indigenous archers defeated forces led by Byron Cole. Minister of the Interior Amelia Coronel emphasized that honoring these heroes serves to strengthen sovereign security and peace.

In the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region, the Nicaraguan Army celebrated its 47th anniversary at the Luis Delgadillo Military Base in Bilwi, honoring personnel for maintaining regional security. The Army traces its commemorative roots to the defense forces founded by General Augusto C. Sandino in 1927.

Patriotic observances expanded to include the 205th anniversary of Central American Independence. As part of these regional celebrations, the Central American Independence Torch was officially handed over from Honduras to Nicaragua in a ceremony involving Honduran Education Minister Ivette Argueta Padilla and Nicaraguan Education Minister Mendy Arauz. The torch is scheduled to travel through various Nicaraguan municipalities before being delivered to authorities in Costa Rica at the Peñas Blancas border crossing. Additionally, the “¡Qué Linda es Nicaragua!” festival was held in Managua, and academic institutions like UNAN-Managua hosted forums regarding the historical significance of the Battle of San Jacinto.
