Nicaragua commemorates historic figures José Santos Zelaya and Julio Buitrago

Authorities and liberal groups gathered in Managua to mark the 133rd anniversary of the 1893 Liberal Revolution led by General José Santos Zelaya. Speakers highlighted Zelaya's economic, social and political reforms and his anti‑imperialist stance, while laying floral tributes at his mausoleum.

In a separate event, Sandinista youth and supporters marched through Managua honoring Commander Julio Buitrago, whose 1969 clash with the Somoza National Guard became a symbol of resistance. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to the Sandinista government and concluded the rally with a revolutionary music concert at the Julio Buitrago House Museum.
